Five Dock Square, Garfield Street

This mixed use development in Five Dock comprises a vertically stacked building program including a ground level supermarket, a public library on the first level and residential apartments on the higher levels. The landscape consists of a public lane / shared way, streetscape improvements and a private communal north facing courtyard.

The courtyard sits atop the public library and is connected to it through a series of glass light boxes which are lit from within and reveal themselves as lanterns in the landscape. The courtyard is composed of a series of three raised platforms which allow maximum access to north light.

Deciduous trees provide screening and solar conditioning for the courtyard level apartments. Mass plantings of drought tolerant perennial species frame the platforms, providing texture and colour.
